Is the Republican party now doomed to be a regional party?

If you look at the 2008 electoral map, they only got votes in the southeast and northwest. The republicans now have 0 house seats in New England and lost 3 more in upstate New York. Meanwhile dems have made major gains in the south, considering they won races in FL, VA and NC.
