Is it good idea to travel, using credit card?

I am from the do not spend it if you do not have it school. Save your money and it is ok to put it on the card when booking just pay it off later that week do not wait for the bill. I travel a lot and do not use my card abroad due to card copying nothing like comeing home to find out someone bought 1,000$ of gas on your dime.
